Mary Kimmi 1919-2017
Mary Catherine Kimmi, 98, Holton, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at Vintage Park in Holton.
She was born June 22, 1919, in West Line, Mo., the daughter of Walter Henry and Catherine Amanda Flora Burden. She graduated from Piper High School in 1936 and attended The University of Kansas, majoring in music. She moved to Holton in 1958 and previously lived in Atchison.
Mrs. Kimmi was a homemaker. She also had taught school for seven years in Severance and Leona and was a piano teacher for more than 40 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Mary Circle at the church. She was also a member of Qui Vive Study Club and St. Cecilia Music Club.
She married Warren Henry Kimmi on Dec. 11, 1943, in Everest. He died March 26, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Kennedy, on April 18, 2014; a great-great-grandson, Ethan Kimmi; a sister, Vivien Chamberlin; and a brother, Uel D. Burden.
Survivors include two sons, Warren E. Kimmi and wife Mary, Wichita, and Duane W. Kimmi and wife Kathi, Holton; a daughter, Janet E. Kennedy and husband Paul, Mayetta; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
