Mary Brown 1937-2016
Mary A. Brown, 78, Mayetta, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born Nov. 3, 1937, on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation near Mayetta, the daughter of Ray and Elsie Wahwassuck Wahweotten.
Mrs. Brown worked at the Prairie Band Casino and Resort.
She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
She married Richard Logan Brown. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Wahweotten; and a sister, Inez Dodds.
Survivors include two sons, Allan Brown, Mayetta, and Darryl Brown, Topeka; four siblings, Ron Wahweotten, Hoyt, Cheryl Wahweotten Walker, Mayetta, Larry Wahweotten, Wichita, and Orville Rice, Mayetta; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral dinner was held Friday evening at the Native American Church on the Potawatomi Reservation. Burial was held Saturday morning in Wahwassuck Cemetery. Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
