Marvin Long 1937-2017
Marvin C. Long, 79, Holton, formerly of Hoyt, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at Medicalodges Jackson County.
He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Vermillion, the son of Wm. Harold and Eva Gough Long. He graduated from Axtell High School in 1955 and later attended the University of Kansas.
Mr. Long served in the National Guard Army Reserve. After spending his early years in the Marshall County area, he moved to Jackson County in 1961 and worked as a carpenter, contractor and estimator at the Holton lumber yard.
He married Margaret Brownfield on Dec. 20, 1957, in Circleville. They later divorced. He married Clara L. Wells on Oct. 30, 1989, in Mayetta. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kellie Bryan and husband Kenny, Hoyt, and Barbara Brown and husband Jeff, Topeka; two sisters, Almetta “Jackie” Bottom, Soldier, and Sandra Sawyer, Hoyt; four brothers, Alvin “Leon” Long, Topeka, Glen Dale Long, Meriden, and Dwight Long and Randy Long, both of Topeka; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry Louroy Long; and a brother, Denzel Long.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.
