Martha Wanke 1922-2014

 

Martha S. (Wehner) Wanke, 92, of Topeka, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2014.

Martha was born in Germany, married Henry H. Wanke in 1948, and was a homemaker.

Martha was a member of The German-American Club of Topeka, of Mother Teresa Catholic Church, volunteered at Let’s Help of Topeka and was a certified lay minister in South Dakota. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family, travelling with Henry, playing bridge, reading both in German and English, knitting, cro­cheting, painting and jigsaw puz­zles.

Martha is survived by her hus­band, Henry; five children, Hilde Wagner, Portsmouth Va., Chearie Donaldson (Dan), Topeka, George Wanke (Tess Banion), Lawrence, Erika Tipton, Topeka and John Wanke (Sara), Katy, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Thad (Kiersten) Millard, Todd Wagner (Mandy), Kevin Wagner (Lauren), Paige Herman (Todd), Schaan Donaldson (Jenifer), Heather Scherer (Lee), Hilary Campbell (Josh), Colin Wanke (Lindsey), Lisa Tipton, Karen Tipton, Briana Booth, Jenaye Wanke, Karalyn Wanke, Daniel Wanke; 11 great-grandchil­dren, Davis Millard, Audrey Millard, Gresham Wagner, Chris­tian Wagner, Luke McCarvel, Bruklyn Donaldson, Jaq Donald­son, Kyra Scherer, Melina Scherer, Zack Nitcher and Flynn Campbell; a brother, Hans Wehner (Barb), Germany; two sisters, Elly Lam­precht (Albert) and Hilde Krischer, all in Germany; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today with a parish rosary being recited at 5 p.m. at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, 2014 N.W. 46th St., Topeka, KS 66618. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Meriden.
