Marilyn Andrews 1935-2022

Marilyn Jalayn Andrews, 86, Holton, died Monday, June 13, 2022, at Evergreen Community of Johnson County in Olathe.

She was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Topeka, the daughter of Merlin LaReux Rogers and Ivolue Farmer Rogers. She attended Potwin Elementary School in Topeka and grade school in Carrollton, Mo., before the family returned to Topeka, where she attended Roosevelt Junior High School and Topeka High School, graduating in 1953. She received a bachelor of science degree from Kansas State University in 1957.

Ms. Andrews retired in 2000 from the State of Kansas, Social and Rehabilitation Services, as an administrative officer after 24 years of service.

She was a life member of the Kansas State University Alumni Association, the Jackson County Catbackers, the Topeka High School Historical Society and First Baptist Church of Holton. She was also a member of Holton’s Chapter P of the PEO Sisterhood, the Holton Tourist Club and the Happy Tapper’s Dance Group. She also was a volunteer at Holton Community Hospital in the cardio unit.

She married Charles M. Reynolds in July 1958 in Denver, Colo. They divorced. She married Henry C. Andrews in May 1980. They divorced and he died in February 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Ivolue Rogers; and a brother, Glenn L. Rogers.

Survivors include three children, Julia K. Darrah, Tucson, Ariz., Michael C. Reynolds, Oakland, Calif., and Susan A. Reynolds, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Ariel Almquist, Zachary Johnson and Dylan Busarto; and four great-grandchildren, Asher, Beckett, Cameron and Fernie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Marilyn will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
