Marie Scheid 1923-2021

Frances “Marie” Scheid, 98, of Holton, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at The Pines in Holton.

She was born May 28, 1923, on a farm east of Mayetta, the daughter of Walter Dean and Bertha Estella (Frantz) Marriott.

Marie attended South Cedar Grade School and graduated from Mayetta High School in 1942. She sold Avon for more than 52 years and worked at Walmart for 10 years. Marie enjoyed working with her husband, Lloyd, on the family farm south of Whiting, where they lived until moving to Holton in 1985. Marie and Lloyd spent many Saturday evenings at the Vinewood in Topeka dancing. She also had a love for dogs, birds and colorful flowers.

She was a member of Avon’s President Club for 25 years.

Marie married Lloyd Henry Scheid on Sept. 10, 1943, in Springfield, Mo. They celebrated more than 75 years of marriage. Marie always said, “Lloyd was her only love and the love of her life.” He preceded her in death on April 15, 2019.

She was also preceded in death by infant daughter, Estella Ann Scheid; a sister, Shirley M. Hazelwood; two infant brothers, Stanley and Russell Marriott; and three nephews, Ronnie, Larry and David Hazelwood.

Survivors include her son, Russell Scheid of Mayetta; granddaughters, Jerica Marie Gallardo (Justin) and Jameia Haines (Chad); and four great-grandchildren, Jaylen and Jaren Gallardo and Ashley and Emily Haines.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, with burial to follow in Holton Cemetery.
