Lyle Jenkins 1931-2016
Lyle Morris Jenkins, 84, Houston, Texas, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016.
He was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Onaga, the son of William Thomas and Fannie Lewelling Jenkins. He was raised in the Soldier area and graduated from Soldier High School in 1949. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of California-Berkeley.
Mr. Jenkins served as an officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wedderburn. He later worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for 40 years.
He was a member of St. Augustines Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, for more than 30 years.
He was married to Mary Koziey Jenkins for 61 years. She survives.
Other survivors include five children, Greg Jenkins and wife Debbie, Byron Jenkins, Marla Briscoe and husband Monty, Jeff Jenkins and wife Polly and Tim Jenkins and wife Diane; a sister, Dorothy Rice; a brother, Don Jenkins; and 11 grandchildren, Lauren, Chase, Amber, Dillon, Audrey, Kay Lee, Jeffrey, Layne, Rhett, Annie and Austin.
A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 6 at St. Augustines Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Burial was held in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Galveston Bay Foundation. Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of arrangements.
