Lorna Graves 1929-2018

Lorna Mae Graves, 88, Topeka, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born March 21, 1929, in Delia, the daughter of Thomas Henry and Nora Louise Loughmiller Perry. She grew up on family farms in Emmett, south of Bucks Grove and Havensville and attended Havensville High School.

Mrs. Graves was a homemaker. She later worked for Northland Department Store in the snack barthen worked for five years in the kitchen at Seaman School District and later for The Manor nursing home. She also worked for McFarland Restaurant, retiring after 13 years.

She was active in 4-H. She also was a member of American Legion Post 400, serving as president, vice-president and secretary.

She married Ora "Dale" Graves on June 13, 1947, in Havensville. He died June 30, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Sipes; and three brothers, Leroy, Bob and Lawrence "Larry" Perry.

Survivors include a son, Doulas Graves and wife Dotty, Topeka; four daughters, Linda Graves-Leonard, Topeka, Connie Graves-Knebel and husband Denny and Debbie Graves-Tillotson and husband Buddy, all of Highland, Ill., and Cherie Graves-Herring and husband Jr., Kechi; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
