Loren Roush 1933-2017
Loren Keith Roush, 84, Holton, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at his home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Wetmore, the son of Harold “Shorty” and Hattie Lorena Smith Roush. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1951, then went to Washburn University, where he got his undergraduate degree before going on to receive a master’s degree in biology from Emporia State University.
Mr. Roush taught at several schools including Burlingame High School, St. John’s Military School in Salina and Central Junior High in Lawrence, where he retired in May 1995 after teaching math and biology and coaching wrestling. He also worked as a junior and senior high school wrestling official for several years.
He was a member of Potawatomi United Methodist Church, Mayetta.
He married Martha Ann Ralston Roush on April 3, 1953. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Lisa Clark and husband Elza, Lawrence, and Susan Nelson and husband Michael, Wittmann, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Roush Williams; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Gillespie, Corrales, N.M.; four grandchildren, Brian Roush and Michael Roush and wife Kristi, all of Holton, Rocky Romeo, Los Angeles, Calif., and Alison Olson, Valley Falls; seven great-grandsons, Chris, Kolby, Dalton, Kreighton and Kade Roush and Kevin and Brody Olson; three siblings, Maxine Crawford, Marvin Roush and wife Joyce and Wanda Lindberg and husband Herb; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Jo Mayer Roush and Patricia Mayer Roush; a brother, Donald Roush; and his son, David Roush.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
