Lois Metzenthin 1932-2020

Lois Anna Metzenthin, 88, Topeka, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at Midland Hospice House.

She was born July 26, 1932, in Skiatook, Okla., the daughter of Homer and Hazel Skoog Diepenbrock. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. 

Mrs. Metzenthin was a day care mother for 20 years and worked for the Kansas Legislature for 19 years. She lived most of her life in Topeka, but also lived in rural Hoyt for 32 years.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, Shepherds Center of Topeka and Hoyt Study Club.

She married Waldemar “Bud” Metzenthin on Dec. 14, 1951. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, David Metzenthin, Hoyt, and Carolyn Sandquist and husband Art, Topeka; a sister, Jean Hackett, LaMarque, Texas; a brother, Bob Diepenbrock and wife Janice, Alma; a brother-in-law, Glenn St. John, Edmond, Okla.; granddaughters, Adriene Williams, Topeka, and Mariel Johnson and husband Ross, Kansas City, Mo.; grandsons, Peter and Patrick Sandquist, Topeka; a great-grandson, Campbell Williams, Topeka; and a great-granddaughter, Marlo Johnson, Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an older sister, Doris St. John; and infant twin daughters, Joanne and Jeanne.

Private burial is planned in Highland Cemetery in Osage County with a memorial service at First Lutheran Church at a later date.
