Lois Flewelling 1926-2022
Lois Mary Flewelling, 95, Horton, formerly of Holton, died Thursday, July 28, 2022, at her home.
She was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Augusta, the daughter of Forrest Clifton and Ethel May Boucher Broomfield. She attended Augusta High School and later earned her GED.
She worked for the United States Post Office as a mail sorter clerk, retiring after 20 years. She was also a farmwife, homemaker and waitress.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Holton, NARFE, Holton VFW Auxiliary, Holton Hospital Auxiliary, Our Gang bank travel group, Quilting Group, Widows Group and Classy Ladies.
She married George K. Flewelling on Aug. 26, 1946, in Fort Scott. He died in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Ethel Broomfield; a son, Allen D. Flewelling; a grandson, Mike Flewelling; a granddaughter, Kylie Salazar; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Fitzpatrick and Levi Lendermon; a sister, Marjorie Broomfield; and a brother, Floyd Broomfield.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Flewelling and wife Madeline, Holton, Robin Flewelling, Goff, Dannen Flewelling, Stanton, and Dennis Flewelling and wife Joni, Nebraska City, Neb.; seven daughters, Carolyn Huguenin, Horton, Kathryn Faulkner and husband James, Warrensburg, Mo., Lorraine Flewelling, Montrose, Colo., and Sherrill Flewelling, Jill Flewelling, Pamela Baum and Sandra Flewelling, all of Holton; a sister, Helen Addington, Tulsa, Okla.; 26 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
