Larry Swartz 1940-2021

Lawrence (Larry) Swartz, 81, died peacefully on Aug. 6, 2021, in New Rochelle, N.Y.

He was born June 27, 1940, in Holton, to Phoebe and Deak Swartz (Seneca sheriff 1964 to 1970). He was the only one of his siblings born in a hospital. His adoring big sisters, Patricia Gantz (deceased), Alberta Harper and Kathryn Towne, were all born at home on the family farm.

He moved to New Rochelle, N.Y., after his wife, Katharine Capsey Swartz, passed away so that he could be closer to his two daughters, Shelley Foristal and Melissa Shively and their families.

Larry was very proud of his children and five grandchildren and would happily tell you all about their academic and athletic achievements. He loved to attend any event that they were involved in and be a part of their lives.

Growing up, he was an active 4-H member and avid basketball player at Soldier High School. Despite being a graduate of K-State, he was a huge KU fan and he didn't mind letting you know and would tease those that weren't Jayhawks!

He will be missed by all of his extended family and a memorial in Kansas will be held in May of 2022. There will be a mass at St. Augustine's in Larchmont, N.Y. on Aug. 28.

Donations can be made to The University of Kansas Endowment Fund in his name.
