Kenny Cattrell 1940-2018
Kenneth Elroy “Kenny” Cattrell, 77, Nortonville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at F.W. Huston Medical Center in Winchester.
He was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Dexter, Iowa, the son of Roy L. and Juanita Uber Cattrell. He graduated from ACCHS in 1958 and attended Vo-Tech in Topeka. He lived in the Nortonville community since 1962 and previously in Atchison for 2 1/2 years.
Mr. Cattrell worked for 44 years at Atchison Casting/Rockwell, retiring in 2003. He also worked as a driver for USD 377 for eight years and he owned and operated Kenny’s Service Center in Nortonville for 34 years.
He was a member of Effingham Union Church and a 4-H leader. He was a member of the Atchison County Fair Board, where he served as president and was inducted into the Kansas Fair Hall of Fame in 1998. He was also a member of 16-75er’s Square Dance Club and Effingham Lions Club.
He married Darlene Ingels on April 25, 1959, in Whiting. She died Oct. 15, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bonita Cattrell.
Survivors include a son, Gary Cattrell and wife Theresa, Nortonville; a daughter, Kathy Cattrell and husband Steve Lee, Atchison; two sisters, June Fund and husband Jim, Horton, and Deloras Fields and husband Richard, Netawaka; four grandchildren, Jason Cattrell, Randy Cattrell and wife Alicia, Ashley Henning and husband Justin and Kenneth Joey Cattrell; and eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Peyton, Emily, Riley, Jakob, Hannah, Baylee and Hudsyn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
