Kenneth Bontrager 1932-2021

Kenneth Eugene Bontrager, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, in Charlotte, N.C.

Kenneth was born in Wetmore on May 12, 1932. Kenneth was a graduate of Washburn University and Emporia State University. Upon graduation from Washburn University, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served for four years until being honorably discharged as a Captain. Kenneth worked as an educator in Kansas and later for Bunn-O-Matic and Kraft Foods until his retirement.

He is survived by his four children, Mark (Cathy) Arlington, Va., Kim (Mike O’Neill), Charlotte, N.C., Cathey (Harwell Palmer), Pinehurst, N.C., and Kristy (Steve Moore), Leawood; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jo Fernkopf (Alan), of Circleville.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice, his parents, Kenneth and Maureen Bontrager, and his brother, Max Bontrager.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Hoyt Cemetery in Hoyt.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Metrolina Association for the Blind and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 280, Hoyt, KS 66440.
