Kay Werner 1926-2019

Kathryn “Kay” Werner, 92, of Lincoln, Neb., passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Journey Hospice House in Lincoln, Neb.

She was born Oct. 4, 1926 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of George F. and Ethel A. (Achten) Keggin; two pioneer families to the Granada/Bancroft area.

Kay graduated from Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn., where she was active in publications and art groups.

She was a former member of Grand Island Sketch Club, Lincoln-Great Plains Rug Hookers and Questers, Bas Blue Book Club. She also volunteered at the Des Moines Art Center.

Kay married Harold H. Werner on June 6, 1946, in Nashville, Tenn. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2019. Kay was noted for her creativity and devotion to family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Werner of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Douglas Werner (Karen) of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Dr. Brian C. Werner (April), Megan E. Werner-Mann (Steven) and Katelyn S. Werner; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Granada Cemetery.
