Karl Sauvage 1946-2022

Karl Eddy “Krud” Sauvage, 75, Onaga, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at his home.

He was born May 14, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Ralph Grafton and Elaine Augusta Cox Sauvage. He graduated from Soldier High School in 1964.

Mr. Sauvage served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam Wa as an E-4, assigned as a postal clerk on many ships. He worked for 38 years at Union Pacific Railroad on the “Bridge Gang,” retiring in 2003.

He married Delores E. “Dee” Aubert on Aug. 18, 2009, in Miami, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include three children, Karla Anderson, Gardner, and Todd Sauvage and wife Geri and Karl A. Sauvage and wife Angie, all of Onaga; a stepson, Derek Weixelman and wife Samantha, Onaga; three stepdaughters, Ashlee Carter and husband Alanzo, Bartlesville, Okla., and Harlee Borders and Emilee McDonald and husband Corey, all of Topeka; a brother, Gordon Sauvage and wife Laura, Flagstaff, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Sue Sauvage, Topeka; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Elaine Sauvage; a stepson, Brandon Borders; two sisters, Shirley Randel and Glenda Bosse; and a brother, Harold P. “Poodle” Sauvage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Havensville Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
