Karen Beightel 1940-2018

Karen Beightel, 77, Holton, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at her home.

She was born Sept. 16, 1940, in Atchison, the daughter of Chester “Chet” and Jo M. Walters Shell. She graduated from ACCHS in 1958.

Mrs. Beightel was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the family farm. She also worked for Holton Supermarket and Jackson County Extension Office.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and helping her husband with janitorial duties. She participated in league bowling in Holton for several years and was a 4-H leader for the Lucky Stars.

She married Jack L. Beightel on Nov. 29, 1959, in Atchison. He died Nov. 8, 2015.

Survivors include her mother, Jo Shell, Holton; four daughters, Terri Keitel and husband Ward, Holton,  Dina Rankin and husband David, Ellsworth, Gail Wood and husband Kelly, Muscotah, and Joni Woltje and husband Chris, Netawaka; a brother, Bill Shell and wife Rhonda, Atchison; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Holton. Inurnment will follow in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
