Julia Lewis 1935-2021

Julia “Jon-yan” Lewis, 86, Mayetta, died Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Soldier, the daughter of David and Minnie Rose Lewis. She attended and graduated from Manhattan schools. She lived most of her life on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation and also lived in Indiana and Illinois.

Ms. Lewis was a registered nurse, most recently working for McCrite Plaza in Topeka.

She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Cochran, Topeka; twin daughters, Judy and Joyce; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy A. Kiyukan-Ziegler; two sons, Raymond and Robert Bridegroom; two sisters, Mary Cell and Mickie Lewis; and four brothers, Pete, David, Francis and Bill Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
