Juanita Jessepe 1946-2018

Juanita Ann “Wash-ke-she” Jessepe, 72, Rossville, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at  Rossville Healthcare and Rehab.

She was born Feb. 10, 1946, on the Prairie Band Reservation, the daughter of Wesley Alex and Mary Jo Magnauck Jessepe. She graduated high school in 1964 from Marty, S.D. She lived most of her life on the Prairie Band Reservation.

Ms. Jessepe was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, Drum Religion and Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church. She also worked as a social worker for several Native American tribes and was a former member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation tribal council.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Allen, Lincoln, Neb., and Mark Allen, Mayetta; five daughters, Laura Abeyeta, Delia, Wenona Wahweotten and Cindy LeClere, both of Mayetta, Karen Thomas, Horton, and Julie Masquat, Mayetta; four sisters, Jennifer Kelly, Ada, Okla., Linda Flores, Dallas, Texas, Debra Jessepe, Red Lake, Minn., and Carol Jessepe, Dallas, Texas; a brother, Ronald Jessepe, Mayetta; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Jo Jessepe.

A rosary will be recited at 1 p.m., Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. A wake and dinner will be held Friday evening at the Danceground Building. Burial will be held Saturday morning at the Danceground Cemetery.
