Joseph Rupnicki 1928-2016

 

Joseph Rupnicki, 87, Mayetta, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at F.W. Huston Senior Care in Winchester.

He was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Village Green, Aston Township, Pa., the son of Peter and Frances Luczowska.

Mr. Rupnicki participated in rodeo in Pennsylvania and Florida before eventually coming to the Mayetta area. He and his wife operated a ranch in Arizona and later moved back to Kansas, farming and ranching near Soldier.

He married Mamie Wahwassuck in January 1956 in Topeka. She died Dec. 1, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter Rupnicki, in Pennsylvania; and three sisters, Victoria Profitt and Laura Neugebauer, both in Pennsylvania, and Nellie Wakefield, in Delaware.

Survivors include his children, Joseph “Zeke” Rupnick and wife LeAnne, Delia, Royetta Rodewald, Hoyt, John Rupnicki Sr., Mayetta, Rachel Wamego, Las Vegas, Nev., and Jesse Rupnicki, Soldier; two sisters, Stella Warwick, Gradyville, Pa., and Sophie Locke, Media, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rupnicki will lie in state at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt, where visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Family and friends will meet by 10 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the Wahwaksum Cemetery for graveside services.
