Joseph Glissman 1938-2019

Joseph Bernard Glissman, 80, Tecumseh, died Sunday, July 28, 2019, at his home.

He was born Nov. 6, 1938, at Seneca, the son of Gus and Gertrude M. Stueve Glissman. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1956.

Mr. Glissman then served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Kansas Department of Revenue after 15 years of service. He had worked at Newman Plumbing and Haul-Mor Manufacturing, both in Valley Falls, and had farmed northeast of Valley Falls.

He had served on the Jefferson County Cooperative Board and the Valley Falls Planning Commission. He was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls, a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 6671 at Valley Falls and a member of the James W. Gibbons 4th Degree Knights Assembly in Topeka. He had served as State Warden for the State of Kansas 4th Degree Assembly.

He married Evelyn Ritchie on Sept. 17, 1960, at Valley Falls. They divorced.

Survivors include a son, Michael D. Glissman and wife Lori, Valley Falls; two daughters, Sheryl Diane Robertson and husband Byron, Evans, Colo., and Jody Lynn Lockhart and husband Melvin, Valley Falls; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Duermeier, Topeka; eight grandchildren, Kari, Cody, Chelsea, Shelbie, Kolbie, Kyle, Tyler and Peyton; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church In Valley Falls. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 V.F.W. A chalice service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, followed by a rosary and a visitation.
