John Shumaker 1937-2018

John F. Shumaker, 81, Topeka, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at his home.

He was born March 10, 1937, in Sabetha, the son of Chester H. “Taters” and Emma Erhardt Shumaker. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1955 and attended Kansas State University, later graduating from Washburn University in 1959 with an accounting degree.

Mr. Shumaker worked for Mizehouser Accounting and as an office manager for Hamm Quarries. He retired from the State of Kansas as a tax auditor after 20 years.

He married JoAnn Eileen Holland on April 20, 1957, in Centralia. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Roger Shumaker and wife Susan, Topeka; a daughter, Janis Ackerman and husband Eric, Topeka; a sister, Dona Bell, Wetmore; four grandchildren, Brandon Blanco, Brooke Ackerman and Ryan and Eric Shumaker; and a great-grandchild, Tatum Blanco. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Shumaker; and an infant sister, Bertha Shumaker.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
