Jimmy Lund 1920-2016

 

Walter James “Jimmy” Lund, 95, Holton, formerly of Mayetta, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Medi­calodges Jackson County.

He was born June 2, 1920, in Mansfield, Mo., the son of Ernest and Minnie Etta Pease Lund. He graduated from high school in Mansfield, Mo.

Mr. Lund served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He later was a farmer in Mayetta for more than 30 years before moving to Holton in 1991.

He was a member of Mayetta Methodist Church.

He married Esther Gentile in 1945. She died in 1965. He married Iris “Maxine” Johnson on Dec. 14, 1965 in Miami, Okla. She died Sept. 27, 2015. He was also pre­ceded in death by a sister, Esther Jones; and two brothers, Arthur and Paul Lund.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo­anne Day, Hoyt; a stepdaughter, Neva Harris and husband Butch, Topeka; a stepson, LeRoy Galster, Holton; four grandchildren, Samuel Day, Topeka, Carol Eakin and hus­band Dennis, Delia, and Becky MacIntosh and husband Rob and Amy Ross and husband Jason, all of Hoyt; a stepgrandson, Eddie Harris, Topeka; and four great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Kurtis MacIntosh and Delaney and Wes­ton Ross.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, where family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial with military honors will follow in Mayetta Cemetery.
