Jerry Segenhagen 1940-2020
Jerry Fred Segenhagen, 79, of Holton, who would have been 80 years old and married 50 years on Jan. 30, 2020, passed away at home on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020.
Jerry Fred Segenhagen was born Jan. 30, 1940, at Holton, the only son and one of two children born to Wilmer Fred and Elma Deloris (Johnson) Segenhagen. He grew up on a dairy farm outside of Holton.
He graduated from Holton High School in 1957. After school he worked in various construction jobs, Goodyear for 11 years, and then raised livestock for the remainder of his life.
In his early years he was a member of the Jackson County 4-H and FFA, where he achieved the honor of State Farmer.
On Jan. 30, 1970, Jerry was united in marriage to Karla Kay Schowengerdt at the Church of The Brethren in Morrill. They shared 50 years of marriage.
Survivors included his wife Karla of the home; four children, Kathy K. Gencauski (Gary) of Holton, William D. Segenhagen (Coltara) of Holton, James D. Segenhagen (Becky) of Holton and Rachel L. Segenhagen (Brian) of Mayetta; a sister, Deloris “Jean” Anschutz (the late Carl) of Topeka; eight grandchildren, James, Jack, Taylor, Kaylin, Kannon, Hunter, Jake and Tylee; and a niece and nephew, Michelle and Brian.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law.
A celebration of life will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 at Your Place or Mine Catering in Holton, where the family will greet family and friends.
