Jerry Eck 1935-2020
Jerome “Jerry” F. Eck, 84, Mayetta, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, at Holton Community Hospital.
He was born March 14, 1935, in Effingham, the son of Joseph J. and Sophia Agnes Budke Eck.
Mr. Eck served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He worked for Goodyear Tire Company for 14 years and later sold real estate for Wittmer Farm Realty. He was also a farmer and stockman on his family farm.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta, Moose Lodge 555 in Topeka and a former member of Holton Eagles Club.
He married Wanda Lee Ash on Sept. 2, 1961, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Kevin Eck and Ken Eck and wife Lori, all of Mayetta; a daughter, Kristi Chance and husband D.J., Mayetta; a sister, Louise Bunck, Silver Lake; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Brock and husband Matt, Breanna Morris and wife Madison, Brooke Eck, Morgan Smith and husband Kaleb, Bailey Eck, Chase Eck, Ashley Wick and husband Caleb and Blake Chance; and eight great-grandchildren, Emma Brock, Brody and Ryker Morris, Gatlin and Jennings Smith, Kemper Busey and Kooper and Kynslee Wick.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Eck and Rosella Mispagel; and two brothers, Matthew and Jim Eck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Hoyt.
