Jeane Carter 1923-2017
Jeane K. Carter, 93, of Holton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at Holton Community Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Charlie E. and Annabell (Smith) Coggins. Jeane graduated from Ruhl Hartman High School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1941 and thereafter Huff Business School. Jeane worked for Central Surety Insurance Co. in Kansas City, Mo.
Jeane married Lewis C. Carter on Nov. 26, 1947 in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2017.
After the family moved to Holton, Jeane worked in the Jackson County Clerk’s office and as a bookkeeper for Nowland Green House. Jeane was also a homemaker raising three sons. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining friends and family, traveling, playing cards and more than anything, Jeane loved to laugh.
Jeane was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Shirley Bundy; and eldest son, Steven D. Carter.
Survivors include sister, Betty Pruett of Grandbury, Texas; brother, Tom Coggins (Rebecca) of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, John Carter (Stacey) of Tucson, Ariz., and Blaine Carter (Lynda) of Lake Wabaunsee; daughter-in-law, Catherine L. Carter of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren, Ashley, Elyse and Eryn; and a great-granddaughter, Renee.
