Janet Banaka 1947-2015

 

Janet Kay Banaka, 67, Neta­waka, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka after a year-long illness.

She was born Oct. 20, 1947, in Holton, the daughter of Ralph E. and Viola Pearl Miller Sharp. She graduated from Holton High School in 1965.

Mrs. Banaka worked at Taste Freez in Holton, did clerical work for Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka and worked for Featherston’s Dog Kennel in Netawaka. She was also a supervisor in housekeeping for Sac and Fox Casino and a home­maker.

She married James L. Banaka on April 30, 1966, in Holton. He sur­vives.

Other survivors include a son, James Bradley “Brad” Banaka and wife Jenny, Topeka; three daugh­ters, Janelle D. Bell and husband Brad, Trenton, Texas, Jerri L. Denton and husband Brad, Jeffer­son City, Mo., and Julie A. Shook and husband Zane, Olathe; two brothers, Jerry Sharp and wife Marcella, Holton, and Jack Sharp and wife Joyce, Topeka; eight grandchildren; and a great-grand­daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Viola Sharp; a grandson, Logan Alan Denton, in 2006; and a nephew, Dustin K. Sharp.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mercer Fu­neral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Netawaka Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
