Jan Wanlass 1948-2019

Janice K. Nichols “Jan” Wanlass, 71, Highland, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019, at her home.

She was born March 29, 1948, at Horton Community Hospital, the daughter of Jake Rufus and Viola Geneva VanDonge Nichols. She grew up in the Soldier and Circleville communities where she attended school and graduated in 1966 from Circleville High School.

Ms. Wanlass and her family lived in Topeka before moving to Utah, where she worked as a court clerk. She returned to northeastern Kansas in 1991, settling in Highland and working as a court clerk for Doniphan County in Troy before retiring.

She was a member of Soldier Christian Church. She later attended Highland Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mick Wanlass, Tooele, Utah, and Donovan Wanlass and wife Shalauna, Eagle Mountain, Utah; three sisters, Beverly Evans and Judy Allen and husband Marty, all of Highland, and Vickie Root and husband Rod, Topeka; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home with pastors Jerry Petering and Tom Carter officiating. Graveside services were held Monday afternoon in Soldier Cemetery.
