James Eteeyan 1959-2017

 

James Lee Eteeyan, 58, Topeka, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born Jan. 18, 1959, in Topeka, the son of Pauline Mzhickteno.

Mr. Eteeyan worked for Topeka USD 501 as a painter for 14 1/2 years. He also worked for Fleenor Plumbing in Topeka.

He was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

He married Esther Maie Bailey Bateson on March 15, 2006. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Nicole Eteeyan and Christina Barth, both of Topeka; a stepson, Donald Bateson, Topeka; a stepdaughter, Kathy Bateson, Topeka; a sister, Carol DeWitt, Mayetta; three brothers, Harold Persinger Jr. and Marshall Pers­inger, both of Mayetta, and Harold Roberts, Lawrence; and five grand­children. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Archie and Laura Moore Eteeyan; and a step­daughter, Linda Maie McFarland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
