Jake Fraser 1927-2017
Glen “Jake” Fraser, 90, Holton, formerly of Fairview and Hiawatha, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at his home.
He was born Jan. 7, 1927, in rural Fairview, the son of John Henry and Mildred Jennifer Houlett Fraser.
Mr. Fraser was a machinist’s mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later joined the Navy Seabees, where he learned to operate heavy equipment. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local 101, Operating Engineers, retiring in 1989.
He married Nancy Carol Ham on March 28, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She died July 18, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jean Zimmerman, Jerald Fraser, Shirley Babb and Janice Kathrens.
Survivors include his children, Jay Glen Fraser, David Wynn Fraser and Jennifer Louise Shaw and husband Bruce, all of Holton, and Timothy Lynn Fraser, Hiawatha; three sisters, Joan Hall, Holton, Mary Kleppee, Hiawatha, and Betty Adams, Central Point, Ore.; and a grandson, Christopher Fraser, in Georgia.
Cremation is planned. A service to honor both Jake and Nancy will be held in Hiawatha at a later date.
