Jack Tharp (1935-2022)

Jack Perry Tharp, 87, Holton, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022 at The Pines in Holton. He was born Jan. 6, 1935 in Kansas City, the son of Lee Earl and Ida Mae (Halcombe) Tharp.

Mr. Tharp earned his bachelor of science degree from Pittsburg State College and his master of science degree from Pittsburg State University in 1975. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged with a rank of Corporal.

He was a printing instructor for the graphic arts department at Wichita Area Technical College, retiring on July 1, 2000.

He married Pamela J. (Isenhour) Logan on Oct. 4, 1984 in Olathe. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, David W. Tharp, Grapevine, Texas, Michael P. Tharp, Atlanta, Ga., and Robert L. Tharp, Overland Park; a step-son, Sean P. Harrington, Woodland Hills, Calif.; a step-daughter, Leigh H. DeWitt, Brownsburg, Ind.; a half-sister, Barbara J. Koonse, Shawnee; a half-brother, Charles E. Franklin, Vancouver, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial graveside service will be held at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials and cards of condolence may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
