Jack Fuqua 1931-2022

Jack “Pops” Fuqua, 90, of Mayetta, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka.

He was born May 30, 1931, in Florida and raised in Brewton, Ala. His parents were Herman and Willie Mae Cox Fuqua.

Jack was a licensed sheet metal worker and had owned and operated Fuqua and Sons Roofing & Guttering for many years.

He married Betty Martin on Oct. 15, 1953, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives, of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steve Fuqua; his daughter, Janie Teetzel; and a great-granddaughter, Abella Rose Teetzel.

Other survivors include two sons, Van Fuqua, Los Molinos, Calif., and George Fuqua, Mayetta; four daughters, Debbie Albright (Steve), Mayetta, Mary DeVader (Doug), Holton, Kim Fuqua (Lenny Riley), Mayetta, and Michelle Auten, Hillsboro, Texas; a son-in-law, Floyd Teetzel, Mayetta; two sisters, Lois Solomon, Brewton, Ala., and Jean Ates, Milton, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt. Burial will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Jack will lie in state after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where family and friends will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
