Ivan Proctor 1947-2017

Ivan Daniel Proctor, 70, of Lenexa, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 15, 2017.

Ivan was born on June 20, 1947 to Ivan Leroy Proctor and Virginia Forster Proctor of Holton, Kansas.

He is survived by his daughters, Lauren and Jessica Proctor of Simi Valley, Calif.; his sister, Sharon Bolling of Lenexa; two maternal uncles, Max Forster of Independence, Mo., and Morris Forster, in Oregon; his maternal aunt, Barbara Forster of Risenhoover, Ore.; his nieces, Audra Wayland of Nashville, Tenn., Jennifer Carlson of Lawrence, and Amanda Lail of Loveland, Ohio; his nephews, Zach Proctor of Phoenix, Ariz., Shane Ravenscroft of Shawnee and Matthew Fairchild of Carlsbad, Calif.; his great-nephews, Landon Proctor of Phoenix, Ariz., Ryan Logan of Tulsa, Okla., Maxwell Ravenscroft of Shawnee, Jacob Fairchild of Carlsbad, Calif., and Nico Lail of Loveland, Ohio; and great-nieces, Ryan Carlson of Lawrence, Emma Proctor of Phoenix, Ariz., Sydney Ravenscroft of Lenexa, Leah Fairchild of Carlsbad, Calif., Sophia Lail of Loveland, Ohio, Grace Fairchild of Carlsbad, Calif., and Chloe Fairchild of Carlsbad, Calif.; and his ‘third daughter,’ Molly Moffett of Lenexa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Virgina Proctor, and his brother, Gary Proctor.

Dan had a passion for wildlife art, the national parks and a friendly political debate. Dan grew up in his birthplace of Holton and spent many summer days playing in the creek and causing general mischief around Holton. Dan graduated from Holton High School in 1965 with classmates that he still kept in contact with throughout the years. He was active Holton High Class of ‘65 alumni and enjoyed their frequent reunions.

Dan spent many years in teens lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons at the local pool in Holton. Dan also worked out on the high lines with his dad and brother to pay his way through college. After graduating high school, Ivan attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1970 with a degree in the arts, even though his original major was wildlife conservation.

Ivan combined his passion for art and conservation by creating paintings and drawings portraying wildlife. He entered the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Federal Duck Stamp contest several years and got as close as third place. Proceeds from the sale of the Federal Duck Stamp are applied toward the conservation of birds.

After college, Dan married Judith Ravenscroft; they spent their twenties traveling the United States and Europe, especially the national parks, and later had two daughters, Jessica and Lauren. In his professional life, Dan worked for Hallmark Cards and Wolf Brothers as a commercial artist and later as a department manager for Home Depot.

Dan enjoyed spending time at “The Yard” with his uncle Mickey. Inspired by his Uncle Mickey, Dan developed an aptitude for restoring classic cars. He often had random car parts around the house for his latest project or projects. He didn’t always finish one project before starting the next.

As per Dan’s request, there will not be a formal ceremony, but a celebration of life for family and close friends.
