Ione Crumpacker 1925-2022

Ione Crumpacker 1925-2022

Ethel “Ione” Crumpacker, 96, passed away with family by her side on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Sabetha, the eldest of three children to George and Marie Brock. She graduated from Wetmore High School in 1943 and then attended Washburn University to obtain her teaching certificate.

Ione taught at a one room school house named Winding Vale just west of Holton for one year. She then decided she wanted to live in the city and experience city life. She started working at Winter General Hospital in Topeka as their Librarian. She enjoyed this and did this for three years. Her wish at that time was to be a professional secretary. She then attended Clark’s Business School and graduated with her associate degree.

She met her future husband, Walter Crumpacker Jr., in 1948 at Forbes Field Air Force Base in Topeka at a dance where they shared the last two dances of the evening. They were married on June 18, 1949, and resided in Los Angeles, Calif.

Ione is survived by her three children, Mark Crumpacker, Phillip Crumpacker and Suzanne Samich; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was the last survivor of her family as she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents and her two brothers, Keith Brock and Gene Brock. She was so loved by all her family and friends and will be so missed.

In lieu of flowers you may send contributions to Topeka Firehouse #12 or Faith Hospice Care, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1034, Holton, KS 66436.

A celebration of life service will be held at a date yet to be determined and will be announced in the coming weeks. www.chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
