Hubert Suther 1926-2021
Hubert Clem Suther, 94, Wetmore, died Friday, July 23, 2021, at Sabetha Community Hospital.
He was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Seneca, the son of Henry John and Marie Berding Suther. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1945.
Mr. Suther served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore, where he served on the St. James Council Board and for many years as a lector. He was a founding member of the Wetmore Lions Club. He was also a member of Wetmore American Legion Levick Barrett Post 282 and served on the honor guard for many years. He served on the Wetmore Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors.
He married Evelyn Marie Jurgensmeier on April 18, 1951, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fidelity. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Harlan E. Suther and wife Janet, Wetmore; a daughter, Yvonne M. Speck and husband Fred, Guymon, Okla.; three sisters, Mary McDaniel and husband Harold, Plano, Texas, Marilyn Herr and husband Bob, Kimberling City, Mo., and Linda Bloom and husband Ron, Goff; two brothers, Norbert Suther and wife Shirley, Augusta, and Wilfred Suther and wife Rose, Rockwall, Texas; his grandchildren, Cameron Speck and wife Alicia, Lance Speck and Mitchell Suther and wife Maggie; and his great-grandchildren, Mazi, Jersey, Charlie, Liam, Charlotte and Luella.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Marcus Suther; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Suther; two sisters, Lucinia Tolliver and Delores Schumaker; and two brothers, Leonard and Bernard Suther.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. Burial with military honors will follow in Wetmore Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, where family will greet friends following the rosary until 7 p.m.
