Hazel Meerpohl 1921-2021

Hazel Belle Meerpohl, 100, of Holton, formerly of Horton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021 at The Pines in Holton. She was born on Feb. 3, 1921 in Tyro, the daughter of Charles and DeLilah Davidson Wheeler.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering her time with area organizations. She was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s fellowship and the National Association of retired Federal Employees.

On Jan. 28, 1949, she married John Meerpohl in Horton. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Meerpohl of Holton; two sons, Steven (Cindy) Meerpohl and Michael Meerpohl, also of Holton; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mary McLenon, Ruth Russell, May Smith and Mildred Lockwood, three brothers, Ernest Wheeler, Henry Wheeler and Walter “Pete” Wheeler and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Meerpohl.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton. Burial will follow at the Horton Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday and Saturday at the mortuary. Due to COVID, there will not be a scheduled family visitation.
