Harold Hewitt 1922-2019
Harold Austin Hewitt passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Friday, May 10, 2019. Reunited with Rita, his wife of 70 years, together they stroll Heaven’s garden, basking in the glory of God and being together again.
Harold was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Milford, Neb., the son of George S. and Matilda (Raitt) Hewitt. He was the youngest of seven children.
Harold served in the Navy during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during a kamikaze attack.
Harold was forever married to Rita Mae Crozier in February of 1946. He spent 33 years as an engineer with Bell Systems and Western Electric Defense, traveling extensively in support of establishing worldwide communications networks. Harold and Rita were avid card players, enjoying evenings sharing their skills with friends and family.
A devoted Christian, Harold studied the Bible, sharing his faith with those around him and challenging them to become scholars of the world. Harold was specifically interested in prophecy, devoting many hours to understanding Bible prophecy and current world events. Harold looked forward with great pleasure to a time when he could discuss Revelations with his creator.
Harold is survived by his three children, Nancy Marie Raines of Soldier, Stephen Ray Hewitt of Harrisonville, Mo., and Susan Kay Stevens of Leavenworth; five grandchildren, Jacob Raines, Mike and Tim Hewitt and Melissa and Daniel Stevens; and four great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Alexander Raines and Eli and Noah Hewitt.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 15 at Longview Funeral Home in Kansas City, Mo.
