Harold Alford 1940-2015

 

Edward “Harold” Alford, 75, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Midland Hospice House of stomach cancer.

He was born at Drumright, Okla., on Aug. 1, 1940, to Vernon and May Alford. He grew up in the Emporia area and graduated from Emporia High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.

After his service, he was em­ployed by BRB and CAS Con­struction as VP over operations of waste water management. He also worked as an appraiser for Price Asphalt. He was employed by USDA Rural Development as Pub­lic Affairs Specialist at the time of his retirement in 2010.

Edward was a talented handy­man and could engineer any pro­ject. He also enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. He was an avid reader. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Di­anne (Starr) Smith Alford of the home. They were married March 28, 1997, at Topeka. He was pre­ceded in death by his parents and brother, Vernon Jr.
