Gerald Ireland 1934-2021

Gerald Russell Ireland Sr., 87, of rural McLouth, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021 at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka.

He was born May 22, 1934 at Atchison, the son of Floyd R. and Winona L. Allen Ireland.

He was a 1952 graduate of Nortonville High School. Gerald was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for a number of years. He was a farmer most of his life and also worked as a supervisor for Masson Nurseries in Kansas City, Kan. He also served as a water treatment worker for Johnson County Rural Water District #1.

He married Norma Kay Reeves on Feb. 19, 1960 at Horton. She survives at home. He is also survived by two sons, Gerald R. “Jerry” Ireland Jr., McLouth, Virgil Ireland, Napoleon, Mo., three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Flory, and two brothers, Edwin “Eddie” Ireland and Wendall “Gene” Ireland.
