Gene Larrison 1934-2016

S. E. (Gene) Larrison, 82, of Topeka, passed away at Midland Care Hospice House on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 after bravely battling cancer.

Gene was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Axtell, the son of Edgar D. and Margaret M. Rogers Larrison. He was raised in the Holton community and started his lifelong career as a farmer there.

He traveled far and wide, finally settling in Atchison, where he married Margaret J. Jackson on Aug. 15, 1951. They were married 42 years until cancer claimed her life May 9, 1994. He later married Donna Roller Moser on June 17, 1995. She survives at their home in Topeka.

In addition to farming, Gene also worked for the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer, retiring after 30 years in Atchison. He enjoyed fishing and hunting game birds in his spare time. He relocated to Topeka in his second marriage and enjoyed traveling many states and wintering in Texas. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church men’s group. He loved taking his family and friends out to enjoy a meal and share jokes. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend to all. Gene will be sorely missed.

Additional survivors include daughters Sandra (Bill) Dunbar of Atchison, Nancy (Randy) Welch of Scranton and Margaret Kau of Atchison; son Curtis Larrison of Atchison; stepsons Steve Moser and Scott (Robin) Moser of Topeka and Phil Moser of Chicago, Ill.; half-brothers Jerry Larrison and Rex Larrison of Holton and John Larrison and Mack Larrison of Topeka; and half-sisters Connie Bird of New Mexico, Sherry (John) Skirvin of Emporia and Penny (Ed) Atchison of Auburn, KS. Gene has 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister, Susie Larrison.

A celebration of life service was held Saturday, Aug. 20 at Grace United Methodist Church in Topeka with the Rev. Cherie Baker officiating. A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date in Atchison for the family.
