Gene Dickinson 1923-2016
Gene M. Dickinson, 93, Holton, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at The Pines in Holton.
She was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Mayetta, the daughter of John Edward and Jewel Burks James. She attended country grade schools and graduated from Mayetta High School in 1939. She attended Kansas State University for one year.
Mrs. Dickinson worked for the Security Benefit Association farm and hospital complex in Topeka, ironing for about two years before her marriage. She was a farmwife and homemaker after marrying. She had lived in the Holton community since 1990 and had previously lived on a farm between Holton and Whiting for 42 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Banner Grange for many years, both in Holton. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Samuel Linscott Chapter, also in Holton.
She married Noel “Bill” Dickinson on Oct. 18, 1942, in Hoyt. He died April 13, 2014. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ann Wallis, in 1994; a sister, Ruth Bradford; and two brothers, Jack and Frank James.
Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Wallis, Overbrook, and Edith Davey, Canandaigua, N.Y.; two sons, Jerry Dickinson and wife Lynne, Holton, and Dennis Dickinson and wife Cynthia, Spring Hill; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will follow in Mayetta Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
