Gary Buskirk Sr. 1950-2019

Gary Wayne “Sosah” Buskirk Sr., 67, Mayetta, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, at Rossville Manor.

He was born Oct. 4, 1950, in Claremore, Okla., the son of Eugene and Ada Levier Mahkuk Buskirk. He attended Haskell Institute and Washburn Vocation School.

Mr. Buskirk worked at Allis-Chalmers, Goodyear, PBPN Maintenance and Hamm’s Construction.

He was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and Native American Church Mayetta Chapter One.

Survivors include three daughters, Ella Mzhickteno-Buskirk, Mayetta, Fawn Buskirk, Holton, and Sheena Buskirk, Ottawa; six sons, Caine Tucker Buskirk, Holton, Wayne Russel, in Missouri, Lance Buskirk, Rossville, and Gary Buskirk Jr., James Buskirk and Matthew Buskirk, all of Mayetta; a brother, Mike Odell, in Montana; a sister, Margret Mahkuk, Mayetta; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lahoma Buskirk; his mother, Ada Levier; his father, Eugene Buskirk; a brother, Edgar Levier; his stepfather, Bernard Fogg; and his ex-wife, Joy Buskirk.

Native American Church services will be held Tuesday evening, Dec. 31 at the Nozhackum Hall, 8362 158th Rd., Mayetta. Burial will be held Wednesday morning, Jan. 1 at the Mahkuk Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
