Gary Bohnenkemper 1944-2018
Gary Allen Bohnenkemper, 74, of Holton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at Holton Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 17, 1944, in Holton, the son of John Harlan and Faydrel Faye (Bontrager) Bohnenkemper.
Gary graduated from Whiting High School in 1963. He was a lifelong member of the Jackson County community. Gary was a carpet mechanic, working for Therll’s and various construction jobs. He later worked for Atchison Steel Castings as an overhead crane operator, retiring in 2010.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton, was active in Jackson County 4-H and was an avid gardener.
Gary married Linda Sue Hutchins on April 15, 1967, at United Brethren Church in Holton. They celebrated more than 51 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Bohnenkemper, of the home; a son, Gary “Allen” Bohnenkemper Jr. (Lisa) of Fort Smith, Ark.; two daughters, Bonnie Bowser (Dennis) of Topeka and Mindy Smith (Richard) of Denison; a sister, Beverly Baxter (Jim) of Holton; a sister-in-law, Christina “Tina” Bohnenkemper of Holton; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty E. Beam, on Dec. 14, 2006, and his brother, Gaylen R. Bohnenkemper, on Sept. 18, 2018.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Denison Cemetery.
