Fred Shea 1937-2022

Frederick Joseph “Fred” Shea, 84, Holton, died Thursday, June 2, 2022, at his home with family by his side.

He was born Oct. 6, 1937, in Lynn, Mass., the son of Frederick and Arlene Douglas Shea. 

Mr. Shea served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963, during the occupation of Europe, the Korean War and in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. He was a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy from 1968 to 1987. He worked for the State of Kansas as a plumbing supervisor from 1978 to 1987. He also owned and operated Fred’s Pump Service and S&S Plumbing. 

He was a lifetime member of Holton VFW Post 1367 and Disabled American Veterans. 

He married Karen Robbins on April 17, 1992, in Holton. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Barbara Shea and Kathleen Shea, both of Holton; three sons, Kevin Shea, Holton, Wade Shea, Ottawa, and Dennis Shea, in Virginia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Memorial graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13 in Holton Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
