Fred Kupfersmith 1929-2016
Frederick A. “Fred” Kupfersmith, 87, Home, died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his daughter’s home in Manhattan.
He was born Feb. 9, 1929, on the family farm near Home City, the son of Frank and Louise Wullschleger Kupfersmith. He attended Midway country school and graduated in 1946 from Marysville High School.
Mr. Kupfersmith took over the family farm after graduation and continued farming until retirement in 2004.
He was a lifetime member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Home City until it closed in 2010. He was later a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Axtell.
He married Betty Moody Ray on Feb. 7, 1976. She died Aug. 1, 2010. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Holm; and a brother, Frank Kupfersmith.
Survivors include a son, Doug Ray, Chapman; four daughters, Debbie Miller and husband Ed, Marysville, Dorothy Watson and husband Jerome, Victorville, Calif., Diana Shropshire and husband Steve, Cartersville, Ga., and Dodie Ray and husband Wayne, Manhattan; a brother, Donald Kupfersmith, Aurora, Neb.; two sisters, Carol Gurtler, Glenrock, Wyo., and Mary Simpson, Montesario, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11 in Holton Cemetery.
