Fred Johnson 1948-2019

William Fredrick “Fred” Johnson, 71, Mayetta, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born May 13, 1948, in Holton, the son of James Edward and Zola Marie Hewitt Johnson. He graduated from Mayetta High School in 1966. 

Mr. Johnson worked for Thompson Implement in Holton. He was a custodian for Royal Valley Middle School and PTMW in Meriden and retired in 2010 from Prairie Band Casino as supervisor of the count team. He was also a farmer and stockman.

He was a former member of the Cutting Horse Club in Mayetta.

He married Deborah Lee Seigler on Sept. 14, 1968, in Holton. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Edward Johnson and wife Teri and Dennis Johnson and wife Hannah, all of Mayetta; a daughter, Jamie Johnson-Shaffer and husband Eric, Mayetta; a sister, Judith “Judy” Bone and husband Bob, Topeka; five grandchildren, Layne Johnson, Kaileigh Gray-Milligan, Hunter Johnson, Jace Johnson and Jarret Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Brynleigh McClane.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 in Mayetta Cemetery.
