Frances Wabaunsee 1957-2018
Frances Ellen “Ki-we-kwe” Wabaunsee, 60, Mayetta, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at her home.
She was born Dec. 11, 1957, in Holton, the daughter of Llewellyn “Lou” and Freda J. Nozhackum Wabaunsee. She graduated from Marty Indian School in Marty, S.D., and from Bemidji State University in Minnesota.
Ms. Wabaunsee taught elementary math in Minnesota for the reservation schools. She also taught at the Kickapoo Nation Face Program for several years and later worked in the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation’s education department.
She attended Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. She was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
Survivors include four children, Miyah Danielson and husband Nolan and Tariss Henderon and husband Stephen, all of Cloquet, Minn., Darren Danielson, Kansas City, Mo., and Lan Danielson and wife Amanda, Topeka; two sisters, Goffy Wabaunsee, Mayetta, and Louie Dominguez, Wichita; and seven grandchildren, Dontѐ, Tyjha, Jase, Sophia, Lucy, Dash and Stevie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Freda Wabaunsee; an infant son, Kena Jones; three sisters, Marsha Ferrari, Henry Wabaunsee and Monnie Wabaunsee; and three brothers, Fred Wabaunsee, Richard Wabaunsee and Ralph Wabnum.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Shipshee Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at Sister Therese Klepac Hall with a wake to follow. A dinner will be held on Thursday evening at Nozhackum Hall. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.
