Floyd Shumaker 1933-2016

 

Floyd R. Shumaker, 83, Wet­more, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Holton Community Hos­pital.

He was born June 3, 1933, in Wetmore, the son of Freddie Jacob “F.J.” and Mae Christine Witten­bach Shumaker. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1951.

Mr. Shumaker served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a life-long rancher and was also a barber in Topeka and Fairview.

He was a member of Sabetha VFW Post 7285, Wetmore Ameri­can Legion Post 282 and the Na­tional Rifle Association.

He married Dolores Griffiths on Dec. 19, 1954, in Centralia. She died Nov. 19, 1993.

Survivors include a son, Todd E. Shumaker and wife Linda, Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Lori Ann Farley and fiance Chris Kosek, Wetmore; a sister, Dolores A. Bartley and husband Bill, Topeka; a brother, Rex A. Shumaker, Wet­more; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
