Floyd Shumaker 1933-2016
Floyd R. Shumaker, 83, Wetmore, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Holton Community Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1933, in Wetmore, the son of Freddie Jacob “F.J.” and Mae Christine Wittenbach Shumaker. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1951.
Mr. Shumaker served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a life-long rancher and was also a barber in Topeka and Fairview.
He was a member of Sabetha VFW Post 7285, Wetmore American Legion Post 282 and the National Rifle Association.
He married Dolores Griffiths on Dec. 19, 1954, in Centralia. She died Nov. 19, 1993.
Survivors include a son, Todd E. Shumaker and wife Linda, Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Lori Ann Farley and fiance Chris Kosek, Wetmore; a sister, Dolores A. Bartley and husband Bill, Topeka; a brother, Rex A. Shumaker, Wetmore; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will follow in Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
