Eva Martin 1927-2017

Eva D. Martin, 90, Whiting, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at Lexington Park Nursing Home in Topeka.

She was born March 6, 1927, in Muscotah, the daughter of James Bernard and Eva Mae Derringer Wagner. She lived most of her life in the Whiting community and graduated from Whiting High School in 1946.

Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and housewife. She also worked for six years as a state livestock commissioner, nine and a half years for AT&T and more than 18 years at Wagon Wheel and Pooge’s Café in Whiting.

She was a member of the Holton VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

She married Paul Frank Martin on Sept. 18, 1954, in Minden, Nev. He died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Crable; and three brothers, John, Walter and Carl Wagner.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Paul Martin and wife Gerre, Denton; a sister, Dolly Kleppin, Topeka; five grandchildren, Jory, Tasha, Kody, Korey and Taylor; seven great-grandchildren; a niece, Stacy Graf, Topeka; a nephew, Chad Kleppin, Topeka; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

No formal services will be held. Mrs. Martin will lie in state from Wednesday afternoon at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Private family graveside services will be held in Horton Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband.
