Eudene Behrnes 1928-2016
Alta “Eudene” Behrnes, 87, Horton, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016.
She was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Netawaka, the daughter of John William and Dorothy Askew Myers Monaghan. She attended school in Whiting, graduating from high school in 1947.
Mrs. Behrnes worked as a telephone operator in Topeka until her marriage, then lived and worked on the family farm until moving to Horton with her husband in 1989.
She was a member of the Walnut Women’s Club.
She married Harvey Behrnes on April 17, 1948. He died April 19, 2008. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lyle and Carol Monaghan; a sister, Ilene Merz; a stepson, Alvin Behrnes, in 1968; a son-in-law, Barney Uber; a grandson, Kody Kautz; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Wilson.
Survivors include a son, Gary Behrnes and wife Jean, Horton; two daughters, Karen Vanderweide and husband Vincent, Atchison, and Connie Kautz and husband Ron, Whiting; a stepdaughter, Alice Uber, Horton; three brothers, Dale Monaghan, Topeka, Daryl Monaghan, Hiawatha, and Wayne Monaghan, Everest; a sister, Maxine Pollom, Ottawa; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, where family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions will be designated later in Mrs. Behrnes’ name to different charities.
